Happy Independence Day 2025!

ree

On July 26 each year, we/Liberians celebrate Independence Day! Happy Independence Day 2025!

On July 26, as we usually parade the streets, raise our flags (national emblems), it's also a time to reflect on the founding principles of the Republic of Liberia. It commemorates the Declaration of Independence in 1847, when "the land of the liberty" was declared by free slaves for the ideals of liberty, equality, and self-governance.

The Declaration proclaimed that all men are created equal and endowed with certain unalienable rights, including Life, Liberty, and Happiness. These ideals laid the foundation for our country built on the promise of freedom and opportunity. The journey to secure these rights was not easy, but difficult and challenging, marked by struggles and countless sacrifices.

As Liberians celebrate today, we honor the courage and vision of those who struggled for independence. It's a day to appreciate the freedoms we often take for granted – the freedom of speech, religion, and the right to participate in our democracy.

Moving forward into the future, let us remember that Independence Day is also a reminder of our ongoing responsibility to uphold these ideals. It's a chance to consider how we can contribute to a more just and equitable Liberia, ensuring that the promise of liberty extends to everyone continuously.

Whatever or however way we choose to celebrate our independence, take a moment to consider the profound significance of this special day. Happy Independence Day!
