Residents of New Kru Town, Bassa, and Hoffman Station are set to benefit from improved connectivity following the groundbreaking for the construction of a new bridge by Maryland County District 1 Representative, Hon. P. Mike Jury.
The project, valued at more than US$10,000, is expected to provide a vital link between the three communities, easing transportation challenges and enhancing access to essential services.
Addressing the gathering, Representative Jury described the bridge as part of his ongoing commitment to community development, emphasizing that effective representation extends beyond lawmaking to delivering practical projects that improve the daily lives of citizens.
He disclosed that construction is expected to be completed within one month and expressed confidence in the ability of the contractors to deliver quality work within the scheduled timeframe.
The lawmaker also urged residents to support the project and safeguard the bridge upon completion, stressing that it is a community asset intended to serve present and future generations. The bridge project adds to a series of development initiatives undertaken by Representative Jury in District 1, reflecting his stated commitment to improving infrastructure and the overall welfare of his constituents.
With construction now underway, residents say they are hopeful the completed bridge will become a lasting symbol of progress and improved living conditions for the people of New Kru Town, Bassa, and Hoffman Station. Residents attending the ceremony expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as a long-awaited intervention. Many said the bridge would particularly benefit schoolchildren, traders, farmers, and elderly citizens who currently face challenges crossing between the communities.
Upon completion, the bridge is expected to significantly improve transportation between New Kru Town, Bassa, and Hoffman Station, making it easier for residents to access schools, markets, healthcare facilities, and other essential services. The project is also expected to strengthen social and economic ties among the communities and contribute to the broader development of Harper District.
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together community residents, local leaders, and supporters who welcomed the initiative as a major boost to development in the area. For years, residents have faced difficulties moving between the communities due to the absence of a reliable crossing point.
