United Serving Club Women Praise Rep. Jurry After Disbursing L$1 Million Financial Support

It is often said that people should receive their flowers while they are still alive. Last Sunday, (30th, November 2025) in Harper City, Maryland County several women of the United Serving Club in Babywroh Community did just that. They praised their district representative, Hon. P. Mike Jurry, for what they described as life-changing support toward women empowerment. The women gathered for the official disbursement of their yearly Susu Fund, a community saving scheme that many of them depend on for small business growth and family support. Speaking at the start of the disbursement on Sunday, Gertrude G. Sieh, General Secretary of the club said Representative Jurry made a major contribution at the start of 2025.

According to Gertrude, the financial support from their district representative has allowed the group to provide loans to their fellow women throughout the year. She says the revenue generated from these loans has strengthened their yearly savings and brought relief to many homes in the community. During Sunday’s payout, some women received as much as 97,000 Liberian Dollars, while others took home 50,000 or more. Helena Swen, the club’s senior accountant, thanked Representative Jurry for what she called “a timely empowerment.” She said she plans to use her share of the money to expand her business and hopes to start building a house in the near future.

Across the hall, excitement grew as other women shared similar success stories. Marline D. Tarlah, from the Bassa Community United Women Serving Club, attended the closing program as a guest. She said the introduction of Susu clubs in Harper by Representative Jurry has brought great relief to many families. “We are no longer running to people or institutions to beg for money just to support our homes,” she said. Another beneficiary, Comfort H. Weay, expressed joy over receiving what she described as a huge amount that will help her plan better for her children. The United Women Serving Club, based in Babywroh Community, Harper City, hosts at least 50 members. According to the women, they hope to grow even bigger next year as more women show interest in joining the saving scheme.
